These week-long cruises conveniently embark and disembark in Venice. Following the ship's evening departure along the Canale della Giudecca past Piazza San Marco, we set a curse for Croatia and its stunning coastal beauty. Dalmatia alone has over 1,000 islands basking in the sun that, along with the coastal cities of Croatia, offer a wealth of art, architecture, culture and history.

On the island of Cres, take a walking tour of Cres Town, a fishing village with a palpable Italian sensibility. Depending on the season, visit the island's ornithological station where you can see and learn about Europe's largest carnivore, the Eurasian Griffon. Split has one of the best preserved Roman edifices in existence: the massive Diocletian's Palace, a fascinating complex where modern shops and offices are integrated harmoniously within the ancient and medieval ruins. The island of Hvar, with its popular harborfront promenade and picture-perfect views from the Fortress Spanjol, boasts acres of lavender fields outside of town. The Old Town of Dubrovnik is a breathtaking sight, entirely surrounded by massive gray walls of stone. Inside, find a treasure trove of medieval art and architecture that has earned it a designation as a UN World Heritage Site. Cap off your visit with a stroll along the Stradun, the wide pedestrian promenade where you will discover many fine shops, cafes and galleries.

The sparsely inhabited island of Mljet offers lovely pine forests and jewel-like lakes, with the opportunity for a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters. Korcula, a very walkable peninsula town which claims to be the birthplace of Marco Polo, contains many reminders of the rule of the Venetians. In Zadar, step ashore for a visit to the exceptional Museum of Church Art, the Archaeological Museum or the National Museum. Your week aboard concludes with a full day in Venice, offering as much to see and do for the frequent visitor as for a first-timer
.
